This course enables the student to organize their thought processes to help solve mathematical problems. The solving of algebraic equations and inequalities, translating word problems into equations, operations with polynomials, graphs, square roots, and functions will be introduced.

This is a required English course for 9th grade students. The first semester focuses on short stories by various authors including American authors, Edgar Allen Poe and O Henry. We investigate the many literary elements that these writers used while writing their prose. The students also have a unit on elements of poetry and compose many poems themselves. The second semester focuses on literature from other lands. We read and discuss Homer's The Odyssey and Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. We also do a unit on business writing that includes filling out job applications, cover letters, resumes and thank you letters. We continue work on vocabulary skills throughout the year. This course is designed to help prepare the students with the basic English skills needed to survive in everyday life.
